Members of the lower house of the Chilean Congress approved a bill today, 68-39 in favor of marijuana decriminalization for medical and recreational use. The bill must now be approved by the health commission and the Senate before it will be ratified. If passed, Chileans will be allowed to grow up to six plants per home - much like that of their Uruguayan neighbors just across Argentina. There doesn't seem to be a push for a regulated, legal market like in Uruguay, however decriminalization will be a welcome step forward out from this failed drug war that brings draconian penalties along with it. Positive momentum seems to be budding all around the Americas.
